Research Apps

Many library resources are also available via a downloadable app in the iTunes store as well as on Blackberry App World and the Android Market. The following are recommended apps for the iPhone/iPad. Most are free, but some have a cost that is listed.

icon Access My Library
Select Dowling College as your school and gain full access to Gale subscription databases for one year. After registering your Dowling email, use the password dowling_main to begin using the databases.

Access your classes through this mobile interface. Select Dowling College as your school, and login as usual.

Free application that is both a dictionary and a thesaurus.

Forgot to bring a flash drive? Use Dropbox to sync and share files between Macs, PCs, and mobile devices.

This is a notetaking app like no other. You can create text, audio, or photos and add them to your Evernote library. It will create flashcards from the notes you write to help you study. Can by synced with the Desktop version so that you have copies of your notes on all your devices. On the iPad2, use it with Evernote Peek. "Using your the Smart Cover as a cover sheet, the app allows you to quiz yourself on anything in your Evernote library. " (HackCollege, 2011).

Don't have time to read that article now and don't want to print it? This app will let you read and annotate documents in Word, Wordperfect, and PDF format. Download documents from email, dropbox, or google docs as well. This app costs $9.99 but is well worth the price.

Select Dowling College as your library and search our library's catalog through this simple to use mobile interface. You can also check your account and place holds.

If you're a Suffolk County resident, this app lets you search the Suffolk County public libraries.
