On this podcast we explore many fields of knowledge related to leadership in social agencies, bringing you conversations with teachers, principals, superintendents and others working in and around the Long Island region, including Dowling faculty and Dowling doctoral candidates. Today Dr. Albert Inserra talks with Dr. Jill Karp on the subject of trust and its effects in the elementary classroom. Dr. Karp is a recent graduate of Dowling's Doctoral program. In her dissertation, Teacher Expectations and the Mediation Effects of Trust on Eighth Grade Adolescent Academic Self-Efficacy and Achievement, she surveyed eighth graders from two middle schools on Long Island. She discusses her findings on the role of the trust factor in student self-efficacy and possible implications for the curriculum and classroom teaching.

Dr. Karp is Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction - Elementary in the Sachem School District.
