This is a free site. JewishGen is called "The Home of Jewish Genealogy." This is an extremely useful site to research Jewish Genealogy around the world, but especially in Germany and Eastern European countries. The site is also very useful in locating non-Jewish individuals from Eastern Europe. Once in the site, click on "databases" to see just how extensive this site is. The site also offers a fee-based option which opens even more resources (the fee-based option is definitely worth it if you are researching families - both Jewish and non-Jewish - in Eastern Europe).

NY GenWeb
This is the New York state portion of the US GenWeb Project. The Project is organized at the county level and/or state level. Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation
The home of the "Ellis Island Archives" maintains records and photographs for the 22+ million passengers and ships' crews who entered the United States through Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1892 and 1924. "The Passenger Record Archive" is a searchable database that lists: passenger records, giving passenger name, date of arrival, ship of travel, age on arrival, original manifests showing passenger names & ship information, the history and background of each ship, and many photographs.
