Emmanuel Church was built in 1862 as a chapel of St. Mark’s Church in Islip. In 1878, J. Neale Plumb, a parishioner, underwrote the cost of adding the steeple and church entrance as it appears today. Bayard Cutting, whose home Westbrook is just down the road, underwrote the cost of adding the rectory in 1889 and the parish house in 1903.
