Description Inside Card:
The West Gate House on the William K. Vanderbilt estate “Idle Hour” was called the “Pouting House.” When Mr. Vanderbilt left for New York, Oliver H.P. Belmont would come to visit Mrs. Vanderbilt. After Mr. Vanderbilt found out about it, this is where he came to “pout.” In 1899, when the first Mansion burned down, W.K. Vanderbilt Jr., and his new bride stayed here until they took a train to New York. Mrs. Thompson was the occupant at the time. This house is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bennett.
