A Note from the Long Island South Shore History Wiki Curator:

The Long Island South Shore History Project was initially based on the organization and presentation of holdings within the Library’s Archives and Special Collections. Thus, this Wiki currently has an emphasis of content weighted towards history that has occurred since the beginning of the Gilded Age (circa 1860). As the site grows, earlier local history will be included, but such coverage may be spotty for some time to come. The information is also currently centered on the geographic local history of Oakdale, NY and its surrounding communities. Once again, as the site grows we hope to include a greater part of the South Shore geography.

The librarians at the Dowling College Library Archives and Special Collections are working to digitize and make public the content of its collections. This process will take years, so this web site will be constantly changing and growing. The first page of this web site is deceptively simple, dig deeper and you’ll discover something new about your community every time you visit!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, the LISSH Wiki Curator, Diane Holliday.
